Mumbai: Film actress, Manisha Koirala, has tendered an unconditional apology to
Mumbai High Court for taking her dispute with film maker Shashikant Nair over
objectionable scenes in the film 'Ek Chhoti Si Love Story' to Shiv Sena chief, Bal
Thackeray.
Manisha tendered the apology on October 10 in response to suo moto contempt notices
issued by High Court against her and Nair for approaching an unconstitutional
authority to settle the dispute when the matter was sub judice.
In an affidavit, Manisha said that she had gone to Thackeray only because he was
her "family friend" and in doing so, she had no intention to undermine the authority
of the court.
On October 7, Nair had also tendered an unconditional apology saying that he was
forced to go to Thackeray because Manisha had already approached him, following
which sainiks had stormed city theatres to stall the release of the film.
Manisha's affidavit was filed by Satish Maneshinde in the court of justices R M
Lodha and Dilip Bhosale. On the last occasion Nair and Manisha had indicated that a
compromise was being worked out between them. The court made a note of their
submission and adjourned the matter to October 17.
Manisha had filed a civil suit in High Court urging for deletion of certain shots
in 'Ek Choti Si Love Story' performed by her body double on the ground that they
were obscene and tended to lower her dignity.
Justice F I Rebello after hearing her arguments and viewing the film felt that the
scenes were an integral part of the film and hence could not be deleted and rejected
Manisha's plea for deletion of the scene. Being aggrieved she moved a division Bench
in appeal.
