King Gyanendra appoints Chand as Prime Minister

Kathmandu: Nepal King Gyanendra has appointed Lokendra Bahadur Chand, leader of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) as Prime Minister, according to highly placed party sources.

However, it is yet to be officially announced. The King has formed a six-member caretaker Cabinet headed by former Prime Minister Chand, the sources said.

Earlier in the morning the King had separate meetings with leaders of the six major political parties - Girija Prasad Koirala, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Surya Bahadur Thapa, Badri Prasad Mandal, Narayanman Bijukchhe and Amik Serchan.
