New Delhi: A high-level committee headed by the director general of Railway
Protection Force (RPF) has submitted its report on last month's stampede at the
Lucknow railway station to the Railway Ministry.
The report was submitted to Railway Minister Nitish Kumar on October 10, official
sources said on October 11.
Though the sources refused to divulge the details of the report, they said it was
under the consideration of the government.
The committee was set up on October 3 following a direction from the Prime Minister
Atal Behari Vajpayee to Kumar after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati blamed the
Railways for the tragedy causing the death of around 20 people.
The committee, headed by DG, RPF, Anil Kumar Pandey, and comprising additional
member, Traffic, K K Gupta, and additional member, Safety, V N Sahay, was to submit
its report within a week.
The incident occurred at the Charbagh railway station when Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)
workers were returning home after the September 28 "maha rally" of the
party.
