Coochbehar (West Bengal): Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) agent Nazrul was on
October 12 remanded to police custody till October 19 by a local court.
The investigating officer had prayed for seven days' police custody of Nazrul, which
the Mekhliganj sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) Rabindranath Samanta
granted.
The accused was not represented by any lawyer.
Nazrul was arrested in Jaisalmer and brought to Jalpaiguri recently in connection
with cases under the Official Secrets Act and others relating to conspiracy against
the state, police said.
He was lodged at Banarhat police station in the district and was in police custody
till October 11.
Nazrul had crossed the Indo-Bangla border several times with the assistance of four
men, who were later arrested from Chengrabandha and Mekhliganj in Coochbehar, the
police said.
The SDJM had remanded the four to judicial custody till October 19.
The police suspected that the four along with their associates were engaged in
helping ISI agents like Nazrul under the cover of export-import and money exchange
business.
Police recovered 36 forged rubber stamps of various departments, banks and officials
of India and Bangladesh, two passports of Bangladesh nationals, a motorcycle with
Assam number plate, a list of phone numbers including those of Pakistani and other
foreign nationals from the four men.
