New Delhi: India becomes world leader in milk production and the overall food grain
production is likely to touch a record 211 million tonne mark in 2002-03.
These were the highlights of achievements in various sectors listed by Deputy Prime
Minister at a press conference on the completion of three years of NDA (National
Democratic Alliance) government.
Other achievements are;
Foreign Exchange reserves have doubled from $ 32 billion to $ 64 billion.
India becomes second largest producer of wheat in the world.
Inflation is at a decadal low averaging around 3 per cent in last three
years.
Export growth have been buoyant at 15 per cent in USD in April to July 2002.
Total flow of credit to agriculture sector goes up to Rs 1,62,116 crores.
2.42 crore Kisan Credit Cards issued through which Rs 49,833 crore given as loans to
farmers.
New states Chattisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttaranchal formed.
Right to education Bill to guarantee education to all children in 6-14 age group
passed by Parliament.
Department of Disinvestment accorded status of full-fledged Ministry.
Successful disinvestments undertaken through strategic sale in Modern Food
Industries, Balco, CMC, HTL, IBP, VSNL, Paradeep Phosphates, Hindustan Zinc, IPCL,
Maruti Udyog and several hotels.
