Srinagar: Six militants were killed and an Army Major was among five persons injured
in separate militancy-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir where ultras exploded
an improvised explosive device (IED) and hurled grenades at security pickets since
October 12 night.
Three militants, including two foreign mercenaries were killed and a Major injured
in an encounter at Warwan village of Doda district on October 12 night, an official
spokesman said on October 13.
Two local militants identified as Sajad Ahmed and Jaan Boura were killed in another
gunbattle with security personnel at Chamba Nain area of the district.
Security forces gunned down a militant at Ratawajina in Karnah sector of Kupwara
district during the period. A number of arms and ammunition were recovered from the
slain militants.
Militants fired four rifle grenades at a security picket at Kathidarwaza on October
12 night but no one was injured, the spokesman said.
A civilian, Gulab Din, was injured in an IED blast at Lassan in Surankote while one
Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh sustained gunshot wounds in militant firing at Nowpora in Sopore
area of Baramulla district.
Militants hurled a grenade and fired on the house of a civilian Bodh Raj at Behota
village in Doda district injuring him, his wife and another relative.
Security forces apprehended a militant at Zalwan in Bandipora area of the district
and seized an under-barrel grenade launcher, its four cells, four grenades and an
IED.
They recovered a pika gun and some ammunition from a hideout at Gajandhar in
Udhampur, he said.
