Srinagar: As efforts for formation of new government in Jammu and Kashmir are on,
Governor Girish Chander Saxena on October 13 invited presidents of three major
political parties, National Conference, Congress and People's Democratic Party, for
consultations.
The invitation assumes significance as no political party has staked claim to form
government in the state even after three days of declaration of the poll results
which saw National Conference emerging as the single largest party with 28 seats
followed by Congress (20) and PDP (16).
NC president Omar Abdullah would call on the Governor on October 14.
Omar said, "The Governor has called us for consultations and there is nothing to
read between the lines. He has also called presidents of other political parties
like Congress and PDP."
The working committee of National Conference, which was humbled at the hustings, is
meeting in Srinagar on October 13 evening.
Meanwhile, PDP vice-president Mehbooba Mufti expressed confidence that Congress and
her party would jointly form the next government.
On the delay in formation of government, she said, "We have to work out a basic
minimum common programme and we are working on it."
Asked whether the issue of Chief Ministership was proving to be a stumbling block,
she said, "These are trivial issues."
