Srinagar: The working committee of National Conference met on October 13 evening to
decide its future course of action, a day before party president Omar Abdullah is
scheduled to meet Governor G C Saxena.
The working committee, besides deliberating on NC's debacle in the Assembly polls,
is expected to chalk out its future strategy, party sources said.
The meeting at the residence of NC general secretary Sheikh Nazir is being attended
among others by Omar, outgoing Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, and senior party
leaders Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Shah, Iftikhar Hussain Ansari and Ali Mohammed
Sagar.
Farooq Abdullah, while reaching the meeting venue, refused to oblige a battery of
reporters saying, "We don't have any agenda for the meeting."
Serious rumblings have surfaced in the National Conference after its strength was
halved in the state Assembly with some senior leaders favouring rolling of a few
heads responsible for the party's poll debacle.
Saxena has invited Abdullah and leaders of Congress and People's Democratic Party
(PDP) for consultations on government formation.
