New Delhi: N Gopalaswamy took over as the new Home Secretary on October 14,
succeeding Kamal Pande who has been elevated to the post of Cabinet Secretary.
Gopalaswamy, a 1966 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the
Gujarat cadre, was the Culture Secretary before taking over this appointment.
Pande was also present on the occasion, besides other senior officers of the Union
Home Ministry.
Before taking over as Cabinet Secretary, a post which he will hold for two years,
Pande, a 1965 batch IAS officer, will remain officer on special duty in the Cabinet
Secretariat till October 31, the day T R Prasad retires.
