Madurai: Senior MDMK leader and party's president L Ganesan on October 15 said the "Centre is shirking its responsibility on the Cauvery water issue."

Turning emotional when the Cauvery water issue was taken up during a press meet, he said not only the present Central government but all the previous Central governments except the one led by V P Singh had betrayed the Tamil Nadu government and the people on the Cauvery issue.

The Supreme Court had understood Tamil Nadu's grievance on the issue and had rendered justice till recently when it asked the Karnataka government to implement the Cauvery River Authority's (CRA) direction and release 9000 TMC of water, he said.

Reacting strongly to Union Law Minister Jana Krishnamurthy's statement that it was not the responsibility of the Central government to execute the Supreme Court's order on the Cauvery issue he asked, "if the Centre will not execute the Supreme Court order, who else will do it".
