Srinagar: The tug-of-war between Congress and People's Democratic Party (PDP) over
government formation in Jammu and Kashmir showed no signs of resolution on October
15 with PDP making it clear that it should lead the coalition with the Congress.
"A regional party will be able to deliver more than the Congress because as a
national party it has its constraints," PDP president Mufti Mohammed Sayeed told a
press conference in Srinagar before meeting Governor G C Saxena.
Sayeed repeatedly said at the press conference that he did not believe
in "manipulative politics" and hoped Congress would respect the "mandate" of the
people of Kashmir.
"The ball is in Congress court. Kashmir is the major problem and not Jammu, and only
the PDP is in a better position to solve it," he said when asked if Congress would
compromise and give up its demand for Chief Ministership.
Asked if parleys with Congress were closed, he said, "I am not closing any
option."
"Congress has to rise above partisan interest. It will be through mutual
understanding and not misunderstanding," he said.
