Coimbatore: Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) on October 15 proposed to hold "aeroplane roko" demonstration in the city airport on October 21 to "condemn" the attitude of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre on the Cauvery water issue.

Alleging that the Centre was acting against the interests of Tamil Nadu on the issue, HMK general secretary Arjun Sampath told reporters that the workers would assemble at the airport and "block the movement" of planes on that day.

Sampath also said that HMK would organise "annadanam" (mass feeding) on October 19 in the temples of Tamil Nadu, on the day when Christian organisations had planned fast seeking withdrawal of the ordinance banning religious conversions.

State wide demonstrations in front of district collectorates would be held on October 24, demanding the government to take over all educational institutions, which had planned to close on that day protesting against the ordinance, he said.

HMK would confer "Mangayarkarasi" (queen among women) title on Tamil Nadu Chie Minister Jayalalithaa for her various "brave decisions" including bringing in the ordinance, raising foreign origin issue of Sonia Gandhi, her stand on Cauvery issue and also giving full powers to the police in dreaded militant Imam Ali incident, Sampath added.
