Wednesday, October 16 2002 09:12 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Strongly criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government's policy of disinvestment, Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on October 15 night said his party will not allow selling of the nation.

"We will not allow you to sell this nation through the disinvestment policy," Thackeray, whose party is a key constituent of NDA, said while addressing party's annual Dussehra rally.

Giving example of Batra Hospitality Ltd purchasing Hotel Centaur in Santa Cruz for Rs 83 crore through disinvestments and selling it to the third party for Rs 120 crore, Thackeray said, "Who needs the money generated by such disinvestiment."

The Sena chief said those acquiring public sector entities via disinvestment should be banned from selling it for atleast 10 years.

The party has made its stance over disinvestment clear to the Prime Minister, he said.

Union Minister for Heavy Industries, Balasaheb Vikhe Patil has written to the Prime Minister and has also personally explained the party's views about disinvestment.
