Mumbai: Strongly criticising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National
Democratic Alliance (NDA) government's policy of disinvestment, Shiv Sena supremo
Bal Thackeray on October 15 night said his party will not allow selling of the
nation.
"We will not allow you to sell this nation through the disinvestment policy,"
Thackeray, whose party is a key constituent of NDA, said while addressing party's
annual Dussehra rally.
Giving example of Batra Hospitality Ltd purchasing Hotel Centaur in Santa Cruz for
Rs 83 crore through disinvestments and selling it to the third party for Rs 120
crore, Thackeray said, "Who needs the money generated by such
disinvestiment."
The Sena chief said those acquiring public sector entities via disinvestment should
be banned from selling it for atleast 10 years.
The party has made its stance over disinvestment clear to the Prime Minister, he
said.
Union Minister for Heavy Industries, Balasaheb Vikhe Patil has written to the Prime
Minister and has also personally explained the party's views about
disinvestment.
