Police recover one ton of explosives in MP
Wednesday, October 16 2002 20:24 Hrs (IST)

Balaghat (MP): Police has succeeded in recovering one ton out of the nine tons of explosives that were looted on October 6 by Naxalites belonging to the outlawed People's War Group (PWG) from the jungles under Roopjhar police station in the district.

"The explosives were recovered from a forest where they were hidden two feet beneath the ground in 40 boxes," inspector general (IG) Sukhraj Singh told reporters on October 16.

After hiding the explosives under the ground, the Naxalites had covered the place with portions of trees that they had cut for the purpose, the IG said, adding that search was on for the remaining eight tons of explosives.

Naxalites had on October 6 looted a truck carrying nine tons of explosives and later taken captive its driver and cleaner.

The Naxalites had freed the two four days later and it was then that the looting of explosives came to light.
