Srinagar: As the deadlock over government formation continued, Jammu and Kashmir
Governor G C Saxena on October 16 asked Congress, People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
and National Conference to come out by October 21 whether they were in a position to
form a government.
Following talks with leaders of different parties that Governor Saxena had, a Raj Bhavan communiqué asked them to meet him along with duly elected leaders of the legislature party before 1700 hours on October 21 positively to clarify whether their party has the requisite support to form a stable government.
It said a party staking claim should furnish clear evidence of majority or otherwise state it would be able to win confidence vote in the House.
The statement came after the Governor held talks with all the three major parties during which they were not able to clarify the political situation adequately enough to enable him reach firm conclusions for moving towards a resolution of the issue in accordance with the provisions of the state's Constitution.
