Srinagar: Leaders of Congress and People's Democratic Alliance (PDP), who had been
at loggerheads over the issue of Chief Ministership in a possible coalition
government by them in Jammu and Kashmir, met on October 16 morning in yet another
attempt to find a way out of the deadlock.
State Congress president Ghulam Nabi Azad, who has also been elected leader of the
20-member Congress Legislature party, and PDP chief Mufti Mohammad Sayeed met in
Srinagar to resolve the political crisis that has gripped the state six days after
election results threw a hung Assembly.
Azad is scheduled to call on Governor G C Saxena later in the day for his second
meeting in the last three days. Sayeed had met the Governor on October 15.
There were contradictory indications about the outcome of Sayeet-Azad meeting with
some sources saying they had worked out a formula to end the impasse.
This was contradicted by others, who maintained that Azad was meeting the Governor
with a list of 40 MLAs and might request him to invite Congress to form a coalition
government.
