Naga security forces ask rebels to follow truce accord
Wednesday, October 16 2002 11:49 Hrs (IST)

Kohima: Security forces in Nagaland have asked underground cadres of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN Khaplang-Muivah faction) to return to their designated camps immediately, failing which the forces "will be forced to enforce" ground rules of the cease-fire agreement.

As per the cease-fire ground rules, the cadres should confine themselves to the designated camps identified by truce surveillance mechanism to avoid confrontation with rival groups for creating a congenial atmosphere in the state.

Assam Rifles sources said on October 16 that cadres of both the factions were found moving with arms in civilian dress in populated places like towns and villages and extorting money from innocent people.

Stating that a series of checks in the recent past along with state police led to arrest of cadres along with arms, the Assam Rifles sought active co-operation from all sections of society for consolidation of on-going Naga peace process.

Meanwhile, Khiamnuingam Tribal Council, in statement called upon underground factions to stop hostility among them to give peace and reconciliation among the Nagas a chance in the border area where the presence of rival groups, had mounted tension in the villages.
