Ahmedabad: The fifth phase of Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) "Gaurav
Yatra", piloted by Chief Minister Narendra Modi to "highlight Gujarat's pride",
resumed on October 16 from Mahatma Gandhi's birthplace Porbander in Saurashtra
region.
Modi commenced the journey on his motorised chariot in the presence of senior party
leader Sunil Shastri and state BJP president Rajindersinh Rana from Kirti Mandir,
party sources said in Ahmedabad.
The "yatra" has reached Madhavpur, the sources added.
Meanwhile, police said adequate security arrangements have been made in view of the
growing threat perceptions on Modi's life.
Modi had floated the idea of the "yatra" to "revive the state's pride in the wake of
the unprecedented criticism of Gujarat following the post-Godhra violence", BJP
sources said.
The two-day march covering Saurashtra region would culminate at Sirohi on October 17.
The first phase of the "yatra" had begun amidst controversies on September 8 and has
since dominated the socio-political life of the state, especially after Modi's
vitriolic on population control and small family norms.
