New Delhi: After her glittering success at the Asian Games, star athlete K M
Beenamol, who bagged two golds and a silver medal at Busan, on Wednesday said her
next target is to win a medal in the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
"I am quite happy with my performance and hope to repeat the same in next year's
inaugural Afro-Asian Games. I am also looking forward to winning a medal in Athens,"
the diminutive runner from Kerala told reporters at the airport on arrival along
with the athletics team.
Gold medallists Bahadur Singh (shot put), Anju B George (long jump), Saraswati Saha,
Neelam J Singh (discus), members of the women's 4X400m team, officials and coaches
also arrived on Wednesday from Busan.
Missing from the contingent was long distance runner Sunita Rani, who was stripped
off a gold and a bronze medal after her B sample also tested positive for banned
steroid nandrolone.
According to Amateur Athletic Federation of India officials, Rani arrived on
Wednesday night and headed to her hometown in Punjab. Beenamol, who won a gold each
in women's 800m and 4X400m relay and a silver in 400m, said her handwork over the
last four years bore fruit in Busan.
Neelam J Singh, who broke the Asian Games record on her way to glory in women's
discus throw, said she was confident of winning a medal in the Asian Games.
"The record came as a surprise though I was always expecting a medal," said Neelam,
who had won the bronze four years ago at the Bangkok Games.
