New Delhi: Kashmir Committee chairman Ram Jethmalani on October 18 said the attempts
to "marginalise" elected representatives of the valley in the process of government
formation would not augur well for future as it was Kashmir which posed the problem
and not Jammu or Ladakh.
"We do not want to influence the process of government formation but it seems to us
that marginalising the representatives of the valley is not much of political
wisdom," he said.
Terming the slow process of talks and unyielding stands taken by parties in a
position to form government as "lack of statesmanship", Jethmalani said, "The major
problem is not Jammu or Ladakh but the valley."
Governor's rule was imposed in the state on October 18 night as Farooq Abdullah
refused to carry on as "caretaker" Chief Minister and the Congress and People's
Democratic Party (PDP) not arriving at a consensus over formation of a coalition
government in the state.
Keeping in mind the race for the Chief Minister's post, the Committee chairman
said, "What we believe is that wishes of elected representatives from the valley
should get due recognition."
"Afterall, it is not merely a game of numbers," he added.
