Naga peace interlocutor briefs Advani on talks
Friday, October 18 2002 13:19 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Centre's interlocutor for Naga peace talks K Padmanabhaiah on October 18 briefed Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani in New Delhi about the progress made in his discussions with National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) (Issac-Muivah) leaders in the recent past.

The briefing, which lasted about 45 minutes, was also attended by senior Home Ministry officials, ministry sources said.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of the parleys in September at Bangkok Padmanabhaiah had with the insurgent outfit leaders Issac Chishi Swu and Thuingaleng Muivah, who have agreed to visit India to further the political dialogue.

Assembly elections in Nagaland are scheduled early next year.

The two sides had agreed to intensify the peace, while a joint statement issued after these discussions said the two sides reaffirmed "the political importance of the broad framework agreement contained in the Amsterdam joint communiqué" in July 2002.
