United Nations: In line with its policy of raising Jammu and Kashmir in all international fora, Pakistan has interjected the issue in the UN Security Council debate on Iraq.

In his address, Pakistani Ambassador Munir Akram said it is essential that credibility of the United Nations be established not only in case of Iraq but also in other instances, where the resolutions of UN remain to be implemented, "such as the Jammu and Kashmir".

Pakistan was perhaps the only state to refer to an extraneous issue during the two- day debate during which every member concentrated on the situation in the Mid East and the effect that the Council decision could have in the area.

"The states which are in occupation of foreign territories and suppressing the Right of people to self-determination should not be further encouraged in their aggressive policies, such as the case of Israeli occupation of Palestine and Arab territories and Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir," Akram said.
