New Delhi: India and Pakistan are likely to maintain their cool diplomatic stand-off
despite having withdrawn war-ready troops from their common border, analysts warned
on October 18, adding the road to peace was long.
"Substantially, nothing has changed on the ground. There is no appreciable drop in
the infiltration" of Islamic militants from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir into Jammu and
Kashmir, said analyst Kanti Bajpai.
"So we are not in a rush to start talking," said Bajpai, Professor at the
Jawaharalal Nehru University. "The government has also indicated it is not in a
hurry, which is quite normal."
On October 16, India announced the pullback of a substantial number of troops from
the border with Pakistan except in Kashmir. Islamabad responded on October 17 that
it would follow suit.
