Bangalore: An end to the boycott of Tamil films imposed by Kannada protagonist
organisations in the wake of the Cauvery agitation is in sight in a sign of
maintaining cordial relations between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, official sources
said.
Office-bearers of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce on October 21 met senior
officials of the Chief Minister's Secretariat and said they would not oppose release
of Tamil films, the sources said.
They would also ask the Tamil film distributors to start releasing their movies,
which were taken off the theatres at the height of the recent agitation against
release of Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu.
Likewise, the sources said, the cable operators were also expected to resume
transmission of Tamil channels, which were taken off the air during the agitation.
The representatives' bodies of cable operators were expected to take a decision to
end the boycott on October 22, the sources added.
Political and other leaders from Tamil Nadu had been making repeated appeals to the
state government to take steps to enable release of Tamil films.
The talks were held following an initiative taken by Chief Minister S M Krishna, the
sources said.
