New Delhi: Congress on October 22 night said it has taken a decision on government
formation in Jammu and Kashmir but it would be announced by party chief Sonia
Gandhi.
Emerging from a meeting of senior party leaders chaired by Gandhi to discuss the
continuing stalemate with People's Democratic Party (PDP) in government formation,
Congress leader Manmohan Singh told reporters that, "a decision has been taken. It
will be announced by the party president".
Asked when the decision would be made public, he said, "It is left to her."
Asked about the possibility of Congress-PDP alliance, Singh said, "we are still hopeful".
He said all issues relating to government-formation were discussed threadbare.
Asked if Congress would stake claim to form a government in the state, Singh said
all these matters have been left to Gandhi and she would be announcing her
decision "shortly".
CWC sources said Gandhi was conscious of the fact that the people of Jammu
and Kashmir wanted an elected government and would not like Governor's rule for
long.
She would be taking a decision keeping this in mind, they said.
