Guwahati: Angry Youth Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI) members
on October 22 attempted to break into offices of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP)
protesting against the VHP leader, Praveen Tagodia's derogatory remark against
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
Official sources said that the attempt was foiled and about 434 of the protestors
were arrested as they took out a rally from the Judges Field towards the VHP city
office in the Pan Bazar area.
The protesters were released later in the day, the sources said.
Heavy police deployment was made to prevent any untoward incident at Pan Bazar as
well as Uzan Bazar where the VHP state office is situated.
Lashing out at Togadia for using obnoxious language against the Congress president,
the angry Youth Congress and NSUI members also burnt an effigy of Tagodia prior to
their arrest.
The protestors had burnt an effigy of the VHP leader at the Congress headquarters on
October 21 in the presence of senior party leaders and ministers.
