New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on October 22 said his government was
alert in countering anti-national activities in the state and would "not allow
Kashmir to be repeated in Assam".
"My government will take steps against anti-nationals. I will not spare anybody. I
will not allow Kashmir to be repeated in Assam," Gogoi told reporters when asked
about reports of increased activities of Pakistan’s Inter Service Intelligence (ISI)
in the state as also infiltration from Bangladesh.
He said his government was alive to the situation and this could be gauged from the
fact that "more arrests as also seizure of more RDX" has taken place unlike in the
past.
Gogoi, however, said he was not aware of any report submitted by state Governor S K
Sinha to the Centre on the issue.
Asked whether the ban on the NSCN (IM) should continue, he sought to steer clear of
the issue saying it was a matter between the Nagaland government and the Centre. He,
however, said he would favour continuation of Centre's talks with the insurgent
group.
On the Centre's direction to Assam to evict settlers from some forest areas, he said
his government wanted the Centre to file a review petition in the Supreme Court on
the issue, as Assam could not ignore to human problem associated in the matter.
Referring to the "vulgar" attack by VHP leader Pravin Togadia against Congress
president Sonia Gandhi, he said this showed the "panic reaction" of the BJP and
Sangh Parivar over the growing popularity of Gandhi.
