Ahmedabad: Pulling up sleeves for the forthcoming crucial elections to the 182-
member Gujarat Assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) high-powered election
committee would hold two rounds of separate special sessions with Deputy Prime
Minister L K Advani and party chief M Venkaiah Naidu on October 23 at Gandhinagar.
Party sources on October 22 said that Naidu would hold discussions with the panel
members, including the convenor Keshubhai Patel, Chief Minister Narendra Modi and
Central leaders Arun Jaitley and Ramdas Agarwal.
Advani would hold separate meetings in the evening with the 12-member committee
members and "chalk out a road map for the election strategy".
"These are crucial stock taking meetings," party sources said.
Union Textile Minister Kashiram Rana is also a member of the committee.
BJP insiders suggest that both Advani and Naidu were given "mandate" at recent
Mumbai conclave of party national executives to work out a 'fool-proof election
strategy' for Gujarat, particularly in view of Congress success in Jammu and Kashmir.
Both Advani and Naidu had earlier named Modi as the party's Chief Ministerial
candidate and are likely to try to iron out any intra-party differences on the issue.
During his stay, Advani would also inaugurate a 3-D IMAX theatre at Gujarat Science
City at Gandhinagar, the sources added.
