New Delhi: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, who has been suffering from viral
infection for the past two days, has cancelled all his engagements on October 22,
including receiving his Japanese counterpart Junichiro Koizumi's special emissary as
he has been advised complete rest for two-three days by doctors.
"Although Vajpayee is slightly better but he has been advised complete rest for two-
three days by doctors attending on him and he has cancelled all his engagements
today," Minister of State in Prime Minister's office Vijay Goel said.
Vajpayee was earlier scheduled to receive a special emissary of Koizumi and chair
the annual General Body Meeting of Nehru Memorial and Library at his official
residence on October 22, he said.
"The Prime Minister was examined by a team of doctors yesterday (October 21) and
this morning. He has upper respiratory tract infection with symptoms of sore throat,
running nose and bodyache. This has been diagnosed as viral infection," a Prime
Minister's Office (PMO) spokesman said.
Vajpayee had returned to the capital on October 20 cutting short his visit to
Lucknow due to bad throat.
