New Delhi: The Supreme Court on October 24 held that Karnataka has prima facie committed contempt by "deliberate non compliance" of its order on Cauvery water and directed it to release "some water" to Tamil Nadu immediately.

"We are prima facie of the view that a deliberate non-compliance of the order has taken place and it is contempt. What final orders as a result thereof we will decide on October 29," a three-judge bench of the Court said while hearing a contempt petition filed by Tamil Nadu against Karnataka.

"We will direct, in the meantime, to release some water. We will record a finding that there has been a deliberate non-compliance of the order," said the bench which comprised of Chief Justice B N Kirpal, Justice Y K Sabharwal and Justice Arijit Pasayat.

After giving this brief order, the Court continued to hear arguments in the case with Karnataka counsel Anil Dhiwan making his presentation.
