Shinde to represent India in Asian Triathlon at S’pore
Thursday, October 24 2002 14:41 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: Mahesh Shinde of the Indian Triathlon Academy will represent India in the Asian Triathlon Cup series in Singapore to be held on October 26.

Shinde would be accompanied by National Triathlon coach Brett Mace of Australia, Indian Triathlon Federation (ITF) president N Ramachandran said in a press release on Thursday.

The 21-year old Shinde, belonging to the Services Sports Control Board (SSB), would compete in the Elite Under-23 category of the racing involving the official Olympic distance of 1.5 km swim, 40km bicycle ride and 10km run.

Commenting on the chances of Shinde, who has already recorded limited success in the past in international meets, Mace said, "We are looking to build on previous good performances. Mahesh has did very well in the recent Asian Championship in China and before at the Subic International Triathlon in the Philippines."

It would also form part of Shinde's build up towards the ITU World Triathlon Championships to be held in Cancun, Mexico on November 9.
