Kolkata: The Eden Gardens was being spruced up with employees of a private firm
working round-the-clock to overhaul the giant electronic scoreboard ahead of the
third and final Test between India and West Indies starting from October 30.
The sightscreens, chairs in the clubhouse and some other galleries were being given
fresh coats of paint and workers were seen numbering the various seats.
The electronic scoreboard, which was installed in 1987 during the Reliance Cup, was
being overhauled for the first time to make it faster and more prominent during
daytime, CAB sources said.
A Bangalore-based company was replacing altogether 63,000 electronic dots in the
scoreboard at a cost of Rs 30 lakh.
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) office at the Eden Gardens clubhouse was
humming with activities with officials running around to finalise the various
arrangements.
Meanwhile, as per the directive of International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Anti-
Corruption Unit, monitoring cameras were being installed at the entrance of both
dressing rooms. Photos of those allowed to enter the dressing rooms would also be
pasted once the match starts to control access.
The Deputy Commissioner (headquarters) of city police Shivaji Ghosh on Thursday
inspected the galleries.
