New Delhi: Continuing its inquiry into the doping scandal involving long-distance
runner Sunita Rani, the one-man Sushil Salwan Committee on Thursday questioned
Indian athletics team coach for the Busan Asian Games Bahadur Singh, who said she
was not involved in doping.
After questioning the former shot-putter for hours, Salwan, told PTI that Bahadur
Singh "firmly believes that Sunita is not involved."
Salwan, who is the vice-president of Amateur Athletics Federation of India (AAFI)
said Bahadur told him that "he does not know anything about it though the final
results showed that she had tested positive."
Salwan, who had recorded the tainted-runner's statement on Wednesday on the first
day of questioning, declined to divulge further details saying "it is too early to
say anything concrete now."
He is likely to question Sports Authority of India officials and doctors besides the
AAFI officials on Friday.
Sunita Rani, who was stripped off her gold and bronze medals she had won in Busan
Asian Games for testing positive, had said in a statement on Wednesday after a two-
and-a-half hour closed door meeting with Salwan that, "I am totally innocent. I have
done nothing wrong."
