Congress, PDP hold talks to break deadlock
Friday, October 25 2002 22:49 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Congress and People's Democratic Party (PDP) on October 25 night held crucial talks in New Delhi to break the deadlock on government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.

The talks began at the residence of senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh immediately after the arrival of PDP chief Mufti Mohammed Sayeed from Srinagar.

Another senior Congress leader Arjun Singh was present at the discussion while the Mufti was accompanied by his daughter and PDP vice-president Mehbooba.

Before his departure for Delhi, Sayeed said in Srinagar that Congress and PDP must come together in forming a coalition government.

"Both forces have to come together to meet the aspirations of the people of the state and I am hopeful about the outcome of the meeting. Let us see what happens," Sayeed told reporters at the airport.
