New Delhi: India suffered a humiliating 0-7 defeat at the hands of South Korea in
the quarter-final of the AFC under-20 Football Championship in Doha.
The defeat on Friday not only ended India's campaign in the Championship on a
depressing note but also cost it a ticket to the World Youth Football Championship
in UAE next year.
India conceded all the seven goals in the second half, five of which occurred less
than 15 minutes after the breather.
Kim Dong-hun emerged as the star for the Korean side scoring goals in the 47th, 76th
and 82nd minutes.
The other goal scorers were Kwon Jip (50th), Cho Sung-Yoon (55th), Jung Jo-guk
(57th), Kim Su-Hueng (60th).
"We played well in the first half but totally collapsed in the second," Indian coach
Islam Akhmedov said.
Korea will meet Saudi Arabia in the semi-final.
Saudi Arabia scored two goals in each half to register a comprehensive 4-1 victory
over China in a quarter-final match on Saturday.
Abdoh Autef impressed the most setting up two of the four goals and also winning a
penalty to complete a hat-trick of assists for Saudi Arabia.
Eisa Al Mayani scored the first and the fourth goals for Saudi Arabia. Captain
Abdullah Al Dossari and Al Khatani scored one apiece.
For China Zhou Yi scored the lone goal in the 50th minute.
