Kohima: Wrapping up his two-day sojourn in Nagaland which he described as "a most
rewarding experience", President A P J Abdul Kalam on October 27 visited the
historic Kohima war cemetery and paid homage at World War II memorial.
Before his departure for Delhi, Kalam, accompanied by Governor Shyamal Dutta and
Chief Minister S C Jamir, visited the cemetery in the last leg of his three-day
North East itinerary and signed the visitor's book.
The President, who met a cross-section of people of the Naga society during his
engagements at Tuensang, Khuzama and Kohima, said that he had had a "rewarding
experience" in meeting three generations of people. Kalam told the people of the
state that they must create conditions in which "our children" could prosper.
Speaking at a banquet hosted by the Chief Minister on October 26 evening, the
President said to transform Nagaland into an economically stronger and self-reliant
state, its bio-diversity, hydro potential, agriculture and tourism sectors must be
developed with value addition.
Jamir said that the President's frequent visits to the North East had helped
mitigate the sense of isolation among the people.
