Bangalore: Under fire from the Supreme Court for "wilfully" disobeying its order on
release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna is
holding an emergent Council of Ministers meeting on October 27 to take stock of the
situation and is under attack from the Opposition who have decided to boycott the
all-party meet called by him.
The Council of Ministers meeting, coming three days after the apex court rapped the
state government and held Krishna prima facie guilty of contempt, would weigh
various options on meeting the present crisis, including the question of release of
water, sources said.
Krishna has also convened an all-party meeting later in the afternoon but it has
lost much significance as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal – United (JD-
U) and Janata Dal – Secular (JD-S) have decided to boycott, angered over what they
called "politicisation" of the Cauvery issue by the Chief Minister by undertaking
the padayatra.
"We have been co-operating with the government right from day one and kept the issue
out of politics but Krishna has injected politics through his unilateral decision to
undertake the padayatra," JD-U Karnataka unit president C Byregowda
said.
He said they were also hurt by certain "caustic remarks" of Krishna against the
Opposition that he need not seek their permission to visit his home constituency. No
other Chief Minister had mixed politics with Cauvery, he said.
