Lucknow: Shutting the door to the party High Command by rejecting the offer of talks
with Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
dissidents in Uttar Pradesh are meeting on October 27 to chalk out their future
course of action.
The dissidents had on October 26 night rejected the offer of state party leadership,
which is making hectic efforts to end the stand-off following the recent Cabinet
expansion, saying that it would serve no purpose. It accused the state leadership of
adopting "double standards".
The dissidents are sticking to their demand of withdrawal of support to the Mayawati
government and extension of only outside support to it.
They have also reportedly demanded removal of Lalji Tandon as BJP legislature party
leader.
Meanwhile, BJP sources said that the leadership has so far refrained from taking
disciplinary action against some senior dissident leaders fearing a split in the
party. But the action cannot be stalled for long in view of the seemingly open
revolt, they said.
