Bangalore: An exciting air display of the aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) was
held at Air Force station Yelahanka, enthralling Bangaloreans on October 27.
The air show was organised by the Headquarters Training Command as part of
the "Indian Air Force Mahotsav 2002" to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the IAF,
a Defence release said.
As the Karnataka Governor T N Chaturvedi arrived, two MI-8 helicopters trailed the
national flag and Air Force ensign, respectively, along the spectators' gallery,
followed by an IAF AN-32 aircraft showering flower petals to make a formal beginning
of the ceremony.
A "Small Boy formation" in the combination of one medium size transport aircraft
(Dornier), enthralled the spectators, the release said.
Next came the "Vic Formation" by three Dorniers followed by slithering of Army
combatants from a hovering MI-i helicopter. Other aircraft which took part in the
air show are a Micro light (Agni), Hansa aircraft, Advance Light Helicopter (ALH),
Pushpak Helicopter, Jaguar and MiG-21.
The IAF parajumpers of "Aakash Ganga" and "Dare Devils" made a spectacular
demonstration of their daring and skillful sky diving.
The grand finale of the fly-past was the aerobatics of the "Surya Kiran" led by Wg
Cdr S Prabhakaran. The "Surya Kiran Aerobatics Team" (SKAT) displayed a host of
formations namely "Diamond", "Delta", "Tango", "Phoenix" culminating with an
impressive maneuver called "Bomb Bust" that stole the show, the release added.
