New Delhi: A Bangladeshi national suspected to be a terrorist aboard a Bangladeshi
plane has been arrested for impersonation as he was travelling on forged documents,
a senior police official said on October 29.
Munawar Ali Bulbul was travelling as Mohd Ataur Rehman and he was using a forged
passport to travel to Lisbon, Portugal, via Delhi, joint commissioner of police
(operations) A S Khan said.
Bulbul, who hails from Maulvi Bazar district of Bangladesh, told his interrogators
that he was going to work as a mason in Lisbon and the forged passport had been
prepared by local travel agents in Bangladesh.
His original passport had been confiscated by his previous employer in Dubai, Khan
said.
The police picked him up on October 28 for interrogation on suspicion of being
a "terrorist". Civil Aviation Minister Shahnawaz Hussain had said that his ministry
received a fax stating that a passenger in Biman Airlines flight BG097 was a
terrorist. The aircraft was on a scheduled flight from Dhaka to Delhi.
On receipt of the information, airport authorities were alerted and Bulbul was taken
away from the Indira Gandhi International Airport for interrogation.
