Sekhon gets PVSM for 'distinguished service'
Tuesday, October 29 2002 23:41 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Air Marshal Manjit Singh Sekhon, who had to make an unceremonious exit from the Indian Air Force (IAF) for seeking political help to further his career, was on October 29 decorated with Param Vishist Seva Medal (PVSM) for "distinguished service of the most exceptional order".

Sekhon, who had to leave service prematurely six months earlier than his date of superannuation, was among 12 senior serving and retired service officers to be conferred the medal by President APJ Abdul Kalam at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The IAF had taken a serious view of Sekhon writing a letter to the then Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal to use his good offices in securing the plum assignment of heading the Western Air Command.
