Wednesday, October 30 2002 07:18 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was on October 30 invited to form the new government in Jammu and Kashmir after the PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) chief submitted a list of 52 legislators comprising the multi-party coalition with Congress as major partner.

The new government will be sworn in on November 2, Governor G C Saxena told reporters adding he was satisfied over the number of MLAs supporting the new government and confident that it would be able to prove majority.

Saxena invited Sayeed after he along with state Congress chief Ghulam Nabi Azad, Panters Party chief Bhim Singh and CPM (Communist Party of India-Marxist) leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami called on him and staked the claim.

Azad submitted the list of MLAs, which Sayeed said contained names of 52 MLAs. PDP has 16 MLAs while the other coalition partners Congress has 20, Panthers Party 4, CPM two and the rest independents.
