Thursday, October 31 2002 12:41 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Two gangsters owing allegiance to underworld don Chhota Rajan were gunned down in an encounter with police on Western National Highway near Borivali national park early on October 31, police said.

Acting on a tip-off that the gangsters, Abdul Khan (23) and Hemantsingh Kasval (28) would be arriving at the spot, police laid a trap in the vicinity.

On spotting the duo, police ordered them to surrender. However, the accused opened fire at the police squad, which was immediately returned by police, injuring the gangsters.

They were rushed to nearby Bhagwati Hospital, where they were declared dead before admission, police said, adding that nearly 12 cases of serious offences have been registered against the accused.
