Rajkot: Samata Party president George Fernandes on October 31 accused Congress of
using communal angle to derive political mileage in Gujarat but said this would lead
them nowhere.
"This is a shameless act by Congress though they have done it in the past also and
it will get them nowhere," Fernandes said winding up the three-day national
convention of his party in Rajkot.

The Samata Party was ready to contest the upcoming Gujarat Assembly polls on its own
and "if there is any need to collaborate with any other party it will be decided
once the results are out", the Defence Minister said.
He, however, added, "Since we are a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance
(NDA) at the Centre, we may consider seat sharing with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
if and when the need arises."
There were no talks as yet between leaders of both the parties on this issue,
Fernandes said asserting his party did not have any alliance with Congress anywhere
in the country.
Communal harmony, employment and disinvestment would be main planks of the party
during the coming Gujarat elections, he said, adding the party's manifesto was
finalised on October 30 night.
Attacking Congress for inviting non-resident Indians (NRI) to visit Gujarat, senior
Samata Party leader Jaya Jaitley said, "Do we need foreigners to come to our country
and tell us how to rule. Their leader is of foreign origin and may be that is why
they want foreigners to come here."
