'VHP would not be bound by SC order on temple'
Thursday, October 31 2002 20:40 Hrs (IST)

Indore: Reiterating its stand on construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international general secretary Praveen Togadia on October 31 said "it is not necessary for VHP to abide by the apex court judgement on the issue" and cited the recent stand of Karnataka on Supreme Court order over the Cauvery dispute.

Addressing a press conference at Indore Press Club, Togadia also cited the example of Shahbano and Aligarh Muslim University in support of his statement and asked, "Did they abide by the apex court verdict?"

However, when asked how long the VHP would wait for the court's verdict on the issue of temple construction, he said, "It will be decided by the people."

On Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s declining base due to National Democratic Alliance (NDA) compulsions, Togadia said the party's base keeps on changing and "this time in Gujarat it will again increase".

Togadia claimed that BJP would get a minimum of 120 seats and a maximum of 160 in the Gujarat Assembly polls and claimed that for the Congress, Gujarat would be a waterloo and its decline would begin thereafter.

The VHP leader said that from November 15 he would spend the entire month in Gujarat "to expose" the so-called secularists by publishing their deeds and statements after the Godhra carnage in 'Shishupal Patra'.
