Jammu: In a counter-terrorism operation, security forces on November 2 eliminated 12 ultras in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, a Defence spokesman said.

A large group of armed militants opened fire at the security forces near line of control (LoC) in Chaprian-Swajian area of Poonch district on November 2 morning forcing the troops to retaliate, he said.

In the day-long gunbattle 12 terrorists were shot dead, he said.

Two jawans, who were injured in the encounter, have been hospitalised.

Identity of the slain militants is being ascertained as the operation is still in progress, he said.

Three AK rifles with three magazines and thirty rounds have been recovered from the slain militants so far, he added.
