2 UP MLAs held for threatening BJP Legislator
Sunday, November 3 2002 11:58 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow: Independent Legislators Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya and Dhananjay Singh were arrested in Lucknow in the wee hours of November 3 by Uttar Pradesh police on charges of threatening Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Puran Singh Bundela.

Senior superintendent of police Anil Agarwal said Raja Bhaiya and Dhananjay Singh were arrested after Bundela lodged a report with the police charging them with threatening him of dire consequences if he did not return to the dissident fold.

Bundela alleged that Dhananjay Singh along with his supporters intercepted his car near Meera Bai Marg while he was on the way to his residence after meeting state BJP president Vinay Katiyar on November 2.

He said Dhananjay Singh threatened him of dire consequences if he left the ranks of dissidents and expressed his loyalty to state BJP leadership.

He further alleged that later both Dhananjay Singh and Raja Bhaiya came to his house and threatened him again.

Bundela, who was one of the dissident BJP MLAs who met Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri and demanded convening of special session of Assembly for trial of strength, met Katiyar and reaffirmed his faith in BJP leadership.

He had also denied he had anything to do with dissident BJP MLAs' activities.
