Atlanta: Stepping up pressure for a new UN resolution to disarm Iraq, US President George W Bush on November 2 called on the body to show more backbone.

"The message to this august body is to be effective," Bush told a campaign rally.

Bush was silent on a deadline for a UN disarmament resolution on Iraq as the White House sought to downplay Secretary of State Colin Powell's optimism about the quick passage of a resolution.
