Elton John casts his spell on Bangalore
Sunday, November 3 2002 16:02 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: The rock 'n roll genius Sir Elton John, who has mesmerised fans from different age groups the world over, enthralled the Bangalore audience in a scintillating performance, "One Night Only", on November 3 night.

Elton John set night on fire in his first-ever Indian concert John, who said he was "very excited about playing in India", began with the rendering of 'Your Song', dedicating it to the audience, which was a sprinkling of mixed crowd including business tycoons, corporate leaders and celebrities.

The second, 'Holy Moses', was a nostalgic number from his old 1977 album, followed by another soft one with touching lyrics about the birth of his brother, 'Grave's Discovery'.

The genius' rich baritone touching various scales with ease, and the custom- made piano on which his nimble fingers literally flew, created music which had the Bangalore audience craving for more in a two-and-a-half hour performance.

His songs like 'Ballad of the Boy In the Red Shoes' and 'Captain Fantastic' from his 40th album 'Songs From The West Coast', led the audience foot- tapping and clapping, setting the momentum for what was to come.

Songs from this album celebrate his partnership with Bernie Taupin, onto to the 21st century, an unequalled one in rock 'n roll history.

It was interesting to watch how a short, fair bespectacled man in his fifties, flamboyantly dressed in blue sequined suit, with only his piano for accompaniment had the audience eating out of his hand with popular rock' n roll numbers like 'Daniel' and 'Rocket Man'.
