'Mayawati govt persecuting dissident MLAs'
Sunday, November 3 2002 13:32 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow: Leader of Independent MLAs, Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, arrested on charges of threatening Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Legislator Puran Singh Bundela, on November 3 accused Mayawati government of "persecuting" dissident Legislators to prevent them from opposing her government.

Raja Bhaiya said the ruling coalition was resorting to such tactics to save itself from imminent collapse.

He said the Chief Minister should realise that her government could not survive by such tactics.

He said Bundela was a "respected" Legislator and he could not even think of threatening him.

Raja Bhaiya said Bundela had a few days back expressed his loyalty to Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh.
